The effect is direct. The performer invites an audience member to examine a cloth bag made from a single piece of cloth, with seams sewn completely on each side. The performer asks to borrow a jacket, or alternatively takes some prop or other garment with him, as he steps INTO the bag. (Could be done with your assistant if you prefer, but I always preferred being the one in the bag.)

The bag is gathered at the top, and a wide piece of cloth is used to tie the top of the bag shut. The top end of the bag is then held by the spectator as a tube curtain is raised around the bagged performer. The top of the bag is ALWAYS in view however, as i t is held by the spectator and droops out over the side of the front.

A fast three count and the bottom of the bag comes flying over the top of the curtain! At the same instant, the curtain is dropped and the performer is standing there, having almost instantly penetrated the bag! This was my closer for years and appears in Tarbell as the Fumanchu Phantom Bag Mystery. It was performed by Doug Henning Years ago
